What needs to change in the SEND system- we all know the problems but what are the
answers? NNPCF input into the SEND review - 11.00am – 12.00pm with Mrunal Sisodia,

Parent carer forums have been clear that the SEND reforms of 2014 did not deliver what
was expected of them – the system remained confrontational, very siloed, and most
importantly, the outcomes for children with SEND did not improve significantly.
The SEND review was set up in 2019 to look at how the system had developed since the
Children and Families Act and what could be done to make the system work more
effectively.
The NNPCF have been closely involved in the SEND review since its start. Many forums will
remember the lively session at our 2019 conference where we gave the review team seven
clear recommendations from the parent carer forum movement and since then, the NNPCF
have continued to work with the SEND review team to share insights from parent carer
forums.
In this webinar, NNPCF co-chair Mrunal Sisodia will outline the NNPCF view of what needs to
change to ensure that the SEND system works for children with SEND and their families.

Though the SEND Review outcomes are yet to be formally announced, the SEND Review
Team will update forum members on the progress to date and the main areas of focus we
can expect the consultation to cover.
