Parent Carers Together
📣 NEW! Our Poole Carers' Drop In Session starts next week on Monday 6th July – and all unpaid carers are welcome. Please do come along and drop-in! 💙

We’re pleased to be working in conjunction with Lewis Manning Hospice Care to deliver this ongoing monthly Carers’ Drop In Session for unpaid carers in Poole.

This session is open to all unpaid carers – you do not need to be caring for someone who has a life limiting diagnosis to attend.

If you support a family member, friend or neighbour, this relaxed drop in offers a welcoming space to:

💬 Talk things through with an experienced Carer Officer
ℹ️ Get information, advice and practical support
☕ Enjoy a cuppa and connect with other carers who understand

There’s no need to be registered with BCP Carer Support and no need to book.
You can simply drop in for as long or as little time as you need during the 2 hour session.

📍 Where: Lewis Manning Hospice Care, Longfleet House, Poole
🗓 When: Monthly – every 1st Monday (starting 6 July)
⏰ Time: 1.30pm

✨ Can’t make this date?
We also run drop‑in sessions in Poole and Christchurch. Keep an eye on our social media for upcoming dates and venues.

💙 Supporting carers to connect, share and feel supported 💙

📣Educational Psychology Service Update

Michael Lane, Interim Principal Educational Psychologist for the BCP Educational Psychology Service (EPS) has reached out to the forum to inform us and in extension-you, that the BCP EPS will be increasing the number of locum Educational Psychologists to support with the statutory process of assessment and report writing. In England, there have been challenges for the statutory process to meet the 20-week timescales. In BCP, the local authority is taking steps to address this situation by requesting more locums to undertake statutory work.

Schools, settings, parents and carers may be approached by locum Educational Psychologists who may be using face-to-face or virtual methods of assessment. Virtual assessments will continue to use the same stringent approaches to investigating the challenges of children and exploring solutions. The approaches taken by a locum will continue to help with the effective production of outcomes and provisions, as well as provide the local authority will other relevant information such as the different areas of SEND. The EPS is also commencing a sustained process of ‘quality assurance’ of locum reports so that the high quality of service is maintained.

The new recruitment process is now in place, and Michael is hoping that the new locums should be contacting schools before the school summer holidays. Ideally, he would like assessments to be undertaken before school closures so that reports can be written over the summer.

Hope you find this update useful.
