🌻Down Syndrome UK (DSUK) Sunflower Challenge

Every year on the 21st March, World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated – the date represents the 21st chromosome present in individuals with Down Syndrome.

At the start of March, plant sunflower seeds and watch as the sunflowers grow during the countdown to World Down Syndrome Day and then continue to care for your sunflower as it blooms.

You could buy a pack of sunflowers yourself and quietly take part in the challenge or especially if you are a school or group, purchase a pack from DSUK (no we don't work on commission, just sharing for info).

Each pack from DSUK can be used for up to 30 individuals and includes:
-A bright A4 poster to show you’re taking part in the challenge.
-A double-sided A5 flyer with growing instructions and challenge details.
-A pack of sunflower seeds (approximately 30 seeds) ready for planting.
-A sheet of 30 colourful stickers to encourage and reward participation.

Just like sunflowers, we all grow and bloom in our own unique way. Our Sunflower Challenge is all about celebrating individuality, kindness and inclusion.

Important notice below if you are planning to go to the oceanarium in the next few weeks and may require the accessible toilet. 🚽
Parent Carers Together
The Oceanarium's accessible toilet is undergoing a refurbishment and will be closed from Monday 26 January - Friday 13 February 2026. During this time, unfortunately we will not have an accessible toilet available on site and can recommend the following options during your visit.

Accessible toilet directly opposite the Oceanarium on the west side of the pier. This requires a radar key.*
Accessible toilet located next to Harry Ramsden's restaurant which also requires a radar key.*
Accessible toilet located by Key West/ Rock Reef (opening times vary)

*In order to access some of these alternative accessible toilets, carers will need a radar key. If you are not in possession of owning one, the TIC (Tourist Information Centre) located directly opposite the Oceanarium, can provide one in return for a £10 deposit.

Baby changing facilities are still available at the Oceanarium in the female toilets and our baby changing room in Penguin Play Area. We apologise for any inconvenience and will update visitors once our newly refurbished accessible toilet has re-opened. Thank you for your understanding.

💻The Royal National Institute of Blind People Survey

RNIB are renewing their commitment to placing customers and supporters at the heart of everything they do. They'd love to understand more about what you know about RNIB, how you feel about RNIB, and how RNIB can better support you in the future.

RNIB are asking if people could take 15(ish) minutes to complete their online survey. Any insight will directly help RNIB improve the way they communicate with you.

The survey will close on 29th January.
If you'd like to take part, here is the survey link
