The Parent Champions offer is a collaboration with us and SENDiass4BCP.
Parent Champion volunteers provide a confidential listening and signposting service for families who have children and young people with SEND in BCP. They provide information, advice and support regarding the SEND local offer and other local and national SEND services.
All volunteers have lived experience of accessing special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) support for their child/children in an educational setting. All volunteers receive an enhanced DBS check and regular supervision and ongoing training from an experienced advisor.
The project is led and coordinated by Alexia Tough and delivered solely by Parent Champion volunteers. It has reached out and supported over 350 families across BCP since starting in January 2022.
Parent Champions are currently offering sessions across 28 primary and secondary schools in BCP.
On the SENDiass website Parent Champions – SENDiass4BCP you will find all the BCP schools who are part of the offer. If you click on a school icon it will direct you to their website. All schools provide an email address to enable you to request a confidential meeting with a Parent Champion at their setting.
Your child does NOT have to have a formal diagnosis for you to access the support of a Parent Champion.
