National charity @FamilyFund has grants available for families in the UK caring for a disabled or seriously ill young adult aged 18 to 24, who is living at home.

Grants range from digital devices, membership to a club, sports equipment, education materials, or even a musical instrument– whatever is needed the most.

Eligible families are encouraged to apply online as soon as possible to gain support, while funding is available.

Check out Family Fund's website for more details:

🗣We CAN talk about cancer

This short project is being led by Community Action Network, in conjunction with Wessex Cancer Alliance. The project is all about carers being able to help with early diagnosis of cancer by spotting signs in the person (aged 18+) they care for.

-A Volunteer Presenter (non-clinical), who has been trained by Wessex Cancer Alliance, will meet carers 1:1 online or face to face as a group, to talk to carers about how to identify signs of cancer in the person/people they care for - this could be up to a 20 minute presentation
-Questions and answers can follow

PLEASE NOTE-the Presenter will advise in all cases of concern to go to their GP and will not be able to give medical advice.

If you want to find out more about this free training, please email hannah.rees@can100.org

❗️Short Breaks Matter Meeting-Have Your Say ❗️

Nigel Harvey Whitten, the new commissioner for the BCP Short Breaks service, would like to invite you through Parent Carers Together to a virtual meeting between 10am –12 noon on Friday 6th June.

Nigel is keen to hear from parents and carers what is working well and what isn’t with Short Breaks. During the session, he will give an overview of his remit and then it will be opened up for any questions and comments.

Nigel is planning to send us some information prior to the meeting, to get views on the proposals from those parents and carers attending the session.

If you wish to attend the meeting, please email info@parentcarerstogether.org.uk to request the joining link.
The forum will be taking a break next week for May half term, but we will ensure to send out any information and the meeting joining link to anyone who requests it via email before 6th June.
